I am sure you must have come across the “ei brother Bernard” video that is currently everywhere on social media.

Well, like the “Brother Bernard video”, trends are one of the reasons why social media is a fun place to be.

Despite how funny and interesting they can be, a trend when used wisely can be your ticket to limelight irrespective of what you do or sell in the online space.

Today’s email is going to show you how to make the most of social media trends to boost your marketing strategies and also boost the overall visibility of your brand.

To begin, what is a trend?

According to Wikipedia, a trend is any form of collective behavior that develops within a culture, generation,

or social group in which a group of people enthusiastically follow an impulse for a short period.

However, I prefer to describe a trend as anything that catches the attention of a wide range of people enough for them to talk about it or make reference to it.

So this means that there are three simple ways you can identify trends, especially on social media.

  • A large number of people are talking about it or making reference to it.

  • It changes/affects the way people talk or think.

  • It lasts for a short period of time and doesn't last long.

Once you recognize these three symptoms, then you have a trend right in front of you.

Social media trends are very unstable, and constantly changing, and can be challenging to keep up with the latest developments.

However, staying up to date with social media trends can be incredibly beneficial for your business.

Because it can help improve your marketing strategy and increase brand visibility.

In this newsletter, we'll explore how you can use social media trends to your advantage as a business owner.

Step 1: Stay Up to Date with the Latest Trends.

The first step in using social media trends to your advantage is to stay up to date with the latest developments.

Follow social media blogs, subscribe to newsletters, and keep an eye on what your competitors are doing on social media platforms.

A piece of advice: Use or stick to trends that align with the goals and values of your brands.

Using the wrong trends for your marketing can give your audience the wrong image of what your brand represents.

Imagine a health brand jumping on a trend that validates or supports smoking. Catastrophic isn’t it?

That’s how it will look when you use the wrong trends.

Step 2: Use Trending Hashtags.

Hashtags are a powerful tool for increasing your brand visibility on social media platforms.

Incorporating trending hashtags relevant to your industry can help you reach a wider audience and increase engagement.

I know you have been taught to ignore comments on your posts like big brands do but do not forget that you are not a BIG brand yet.

Step 6: Experiment and be unique.

For most trends, almost everyone will be doing the same thing. Your only chance to beat the algorithm and other businesses is to stand out with your content.
